31-year-old Dvonte Newbill was charged with DUI on Tuesday morning after officers observed him speeding down 41-A, near Quin Lane, in his silver Jeep Wrangler. Officers observed him traveling at 71 mph in a 45 mph zone. A traffic stop was performed, and the officer could immediately smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Newbill had bloodshot eyes and was so fidgety that he initially pulled out his debit card instead of his license. When officers asked him when the last time he smoked marijuana was, he replied, “a few minutes ago” He later said that he meant a few days ago and denied having smoked recently.
Officers asked him why his Jeep smelled like weed, and he said his friends had smoked in his vehicle a day before. Newbill’s tongue had a green film in areas consistent with marijuana use. He agreed to sobriety testing and performed poorly. He was worried his blood sample would show that he had smoked weed a few days ago.

Dvonte Aunrie Newbill of Country Fields Ln in Clarksville, TN, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on March 7th, charged with driving under the influence and speeding. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $1,500.
