60-year-old Joseph Schmitt was being drunk and aggressive at Mike’s Bar and Grill on Lowes Drive on December 20th. The bar owner’s daughter asked Schmitt to leave due to his high level of intoxication. Schmitt was advised to get a ride home, but while he waited for his driver to arrive, he drove away in his car instead. Officers conducted a traffic stop once he got onto Tiny Town Road. Officers already knew that Schmitt was intoxicated from a complaint they received from the grill. Once Schmitt was asked to perform field sobriety tests, he exhibited several other clues that confirmed that he was inebriated. During a probable cause search of Schmitt, a handgun was found between the driver’s seat and the middle console. Mr. Schmitt was charged with his 1st DUI and possession of a firearm under the influence.
Joseph Carl Schmitt of Loupin Drive in Clarksville, TN, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on December 21st, charged with DUI and possession of handgun while under the influence. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $7,500.
