Soldier Chelsea Messmer charged with domestic assault of her husband during dispute

24-year-old Fort Campbell soldier Chelsea Messmer was jailed on October 21st after assaulting her husband at their home on Freedom Drive. She advised that she told her husband, Joseph Messmer, that he needed to move out. She then began helping Joseph pack his belongings by putting them on the ground in front of the dresser. Chelsea asked Joseph to pack what was in the bedroom last so he didn’t wake up their son. She then noticed Joseph carrying the child and asked him multiple times to give her the baby so she could feed him. But Joseph would not give up the child, so she started prying his fingers apart to get the child from him.

According to Joseph, while packing his belongings, Chelsea began screaming in his face and throwing things. During this time, their son began crying, so he picked him up. Chelsea asked Joseph to give her their son, to which he responded that she needed to calm down first, and while trying to distance himself from Chelsea, she kicked him in the groin, grabbed his hair, and hit him on the back. Police observed multiple red marks and handprints on Joseph’s back and determined Chelsea to be the primary aggressor.
