44-year-old John Frederick Murray, Jr., was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on May 5th just before 4 p.m. on charges including DUI. He faced a bond of at least $8,000, which he was unable to make. He completed medical screening and was assigned a cell.
Hours later on May 6th, during a routine security check, Murray was discovered to be unresponsive in his cell. A facility medical alert was declared and personnel began CPR until EMS arrived to transport him to Tennova Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Sources familiar with his intake tell Clarksville Today that Murray disclosed to intake staff he was an alcoholic and would be going through severe detox if he was unable to make a bond. Hours later, he was dead.
A spokesperson from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says investigators are conducting an unattended death investigation, and an autopsy has been requested and will be conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
