Kavarius Moody stabs, slams, & strangles girlfriend during altercation

21-year-old Kavarius Moody was involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Na’Shari Blackwell, at their Kingbird Drive residence on July 3rd. Officers were dispatched to a domestic incident involving a knife with an open line. During the phone call, officers could hear a female screaming in the background. When officers arrived, they came in contact and observed that Moody and Blackwell were both bleeding and covered in blood. Officers ordered Moody to put his hands behind his back and walk towards them, but they noticed that he had placed something in the kitchen trash can. In the trash can, officers discovered a used kitchen knife. Officers spoke with Blackwell, who stated that while arguing with Moody in the garage, he began strangling her with both of his hands. Blackwell told officers that she pushed Moody away, but he then slammed her onto the ground and began strangling her again while placing a knife to her throat. After that, she grabbed the knife by the blade to attempt to get it away from her throat. Officers observed lacerations and cuts on her right hand that were consistent with her grabbing the knife. Blackwell informed officers that this was when the altercation went from the garage to the washroom. Moody pinned her against a wall and began strangling her once more. Officers then spoke with Taylor Walker, a witness, who stated that she heard Blackwell screaming for help. Walker stated she came downstairs, where she witnessed Moody throw Blackwell to the ground, strangle her, and hold a knife to her chest. Officers then spoke with Moody, who claimed that Blackwell was the one with the knife and that no assault had occurred. Moody was deemed the primary aggressor, so he was taken into custody for aggravated assault.
