On June 20th, 40-year-old Andrew Nelson was spotted driving under the influence near the intersection of Highway 48 and Highway 149. Officers observed Nelson’s vehicle tailgating another vehicle in regular traffic, prompting them to initiate a traffic stop. Upon approaching Nelson’s vehicle and making contact, officers immediately noticed the smell of alcohol, as well as Nelson’s slurred speech and slowed reactions. Another unit arrived to assist, and they spoke with Nelson. During questioning, Nelson confessed to having consumed five beers before driving. When officers asked Nelson to perform sobriety tests, he refused. Additionally, it was discovered that Nelson’s driver’s license had been suspended due to his refusal to undergo DUI testing. Consequently, Nelson was taken into custody for driving under under the influence, following too closely, driving on a suspended license, and implied consent.
