36-year-old Stacy Torian-Batts was seen publicly intoxicated at Walmart on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard on August 3rd. The store employees reported seeing a woman and a child walking through the parking lot. They added that the woman was pulling on random car door handles. When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with Batts and her five-year-old daughter. Officers observed Batts pulling on the handles of a vehicle, and when asked what she was doing, Batts stated that she was looking for her keys.
While speaking with her, Batts had a strong smell of alcohol on her, as well as slurred speech and difficulty maintaining balance. After the Department of Child Services had arrived on the scene, they spoke with the child. The child stated that her mother, Batts, had shoplifted four single shots of moonshine from Ebenezer’s Liquors & Wine and consumed them on the walk to Walmart. DCS took the child, and Batts was then taken into custody for child abuse, simple possession, and public intoxication on August 4th.
